Website Diverse Charter Schools Coalition

The Diverse Charter Schools Coalition is a coalition of public charter schools dedicated to promoting racially, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse student populations. Our vision is that an ever-growing number of American public schools, including many charter schools, will embody the diversity of our nation’s people – across race, socioeconomic status, language and abilities – while preparing the children in their care to pursue higher education, meaningful and sustainable work in a global economy, and an equal role in a more cohesive and connected participatory democracy.

The Coalition’s membership has grown from 14 founding member schools to 44 member schools and networks serving over 50,000 students across the country. Our members are the core of who we are and what we do. We work closely with all our members to support and amplify their work as well as encourage them to improve their practices. We also work with other schools, organizations, and policy-makers that seek to leverage charter schools and school integration to improve student academic outcomes, school culture and community outreach, and strengthen their educational models.

The Program Coordinator will collaborate closely with the team, members schools, and board advisors to support the Coalition’s major projects including our regional and national convenings and communities of practice. We convene our member schools, policy and practice thought leaders, and other charter leaders throughout the year to foster cross-sharing and the exchange of ideas and best practices. We feature current and thought-provoking topics to challenge attendees’ assumptions, create opportunities to deepen existing connections and establish new ones, and inspire sharing and learning of pertinent strategies. Our convenings and communities of practice, both in-person and virtual, help shape school and classroom practice, and support educators and education leaders in using data-informed approaches to improve their practice.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Project & Event Coordination (50%)
– Develop and maintain plans for key projects and events, including tracking all tasks, deliverables, and deadlines
– Create, direct, and manage all logistical aspects of the Coalition’s annual and regional convenings including creating and managing event materials, registration forms and feedback surveys
– Coordinate in-person and virtual communities of practice and other technical assistance to members and partners
– Maintain ongoing communications with relevant stakeholders on project needs, progress, and constraints

Relationship Management (30%)
– Engage with education leaders across the country to identify needs, collect feedback, and iterate on the Coalition’s programming
– Maintain professional relationships with prior, current, and prospective members and partners through in-person, virtual, and telephone interactions
– In partnership with the leadership team, identify opportunities for collaboration and new partnerships
– Maintain up-to-date knowledge on diverse-by-design schools practices in order to provide members and partners with the most timely and actionable information

Communication (20%)
– Develop new (and improve on existing) materials, including toolkits, webinars, presentations, etc
– Create clear and compelling written reports synthesizing internal and external data and research analyses
– Draft blog posts, memos, and other publications for internal and external audiences
– Manage newsletters and social media accounts

PREFERRED COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE
– A least two years of project management experience with strong track record of building and sustaining long-term projects
– Prior career experience in K-12 education
– Experience in multitasking and ability to work independently under myriad of deadlines
– Demonstrated ability building relationships with external partners
– Strong written and verbal communication skills
– Ability to travel

POSITION DETAILS
Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes a robust benefits package. This is a full-time position. We are a remote team but this position is ideally based in New York City or the Washington D.C. metropolitan areas.
