Join fellow school members and partners this weekend for our 3rd Annual Convening in Washington, D.C. We kick off our event at Bar Deco Saturday afternoon over drinks and food. On Sunday, we’ll explore best practice ideas, engage in consultancies, and strategize on what we can all do to advance diversity, equity, and excellence. NewSchools Summit: Our Schools Highlighted
NewSchools Summit is an annual invitation-only gathering of education innovation thought leaders who bring important and diverse perspectives in PreK-12 education. Over 1,000 entrepreneurs, educators, community leaders, funders, and policy makers come together to share ideas on how we can reimagine schools so they prepare all students, from every background, to achieve their most ambitious dreams. Opening Plenary: Dianne Tavenner (Summit Public Schools) and Todd Dickson (Valor Collegiate Academies) join Derwin Sisnett (Maslow Development, Inc) and Nancy Bernardino (Solar Prep) as the “new generation” of school innovators and share what they’re trying, what they’re learning, and what makes them hopeful for the future. In recent years there have been signs of a resurgent grassroots movement to integrate schools. From a variety of perspectives, our panelists will examine the state of segregation by race and class in America’s schools, and the promising initiatives and practices that are emerging in the renewed movement to integrate America’s schools. Speakers: Gary Orfield, co-Director UCLA Civil Rights Project; Distinguished Research Professor, UCLA Graduate School of Education & Information Studies; Johanna Josaphat, Founding Teacher, Unison School; John B. King, Jr., President and CEO, The Education Trust; former United States Secretary of Education; Ann Owens, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, University of Southern California.
