School Launch Program
At its annual convening in January, the Diverse Charter Schools Coalition proudly introduced its School Launch Program, a new initiative that will catalyze the launch of four new, intentionally diverse charter schools by 2020.
DCSC’s School Launch Program prepares aspiring leaders to create and lead high performing, intentionally diverse charter schools. Aspiring leaders in the Explore Series participate in weekend sessions that introduce and explore school launch. Leaders in the Fellowship participate in a full-time, paid residency- at least 12 months long- at a member host school site. The Fellowship culminates in the launch of a new intentionally diverse school.
The Explore Series is open to any aspiring leader interested in exploring school launch. Leaders interested in the Fellowship will participate in a multi-step process designed to surface strengths. The process includes a resume review, phone screen, work product review, and interview with DCSC staff and board members. Aspiring leaders interested in attending Explore Series are invited to submit an interest form. Leaders interested in applying for the Fellowship are invited to schedule a phone screen.
Host School Sites
Fellowship Host School Sites host a fellow and provide a residency experience that prepares them for school leadership. Host school sites are exemplary models of intentionally diverse schools. They have effective leadership, a collaborative culture, strong family engagement, an environment that is equitable and inclusive for all staff and students, and rigorous instruction that leads to higher-than-local-average academic results for students. Host school sites are selected through a multi-step process that involves a school leader interview, data review, and site visit. Schools interested in becoming a Host School Site are invited to schedule an informational call.
Where We are Headed
To date, 15 schools and 20 school leaders have participated in introductory calls about DCSC’s School Launch Program. DCSC will announce the members of its inaugural Fellowship class along with the Host School Sites to which they are matched in Spring 2018. The School Launch Program will kick off in July.
