Social Justice ABDs: Agitate, Build, Disrupt, and De-center

Dr. Aaron J. Griffen, VP of Diversity Equity and Inclusion at DSST Public Schools led DCSC members from 5 member schools. They developed Agitation Spaces and Norms for Disrupting the Master Status Quo Narrative of Neutrality and Objectivity. They began with deep and personal dialogue about uncomfortable truths that uphold the oppressive structures and systems we claim to want to dismantle.
In addition to co-creating this deliverable participants walked away with ideas and thoughts to remove these structures and systems by erecting alternative measures for engagement and building a truly diverse, equity, and inclusive environment that is social justice-centered.
Academic Equity through Accelerated Learning

Dr. Winsome Waite and Angelica Jackson of Phoenix School for the Arts lead this CoP anchor on 7 key instructional strategies for accelerating student learning. Working with DCSC members from 8 DCSC members, this CoP produced a Padlet resource.
Longstanding academic inequities have ballooned into a nonstop barrage of concerns about “learning loss,” “unfinished learning,” and the ever-present fear of students falling further behind grade levels. The academic achievement gap doesn’t have to haunt educators in the same ways as before! Dr. Winsome Waite and Angelica Jackson are leading one of our Communities of Practice on accelerated learning.

We have updated our reflections on recent incidents and new data, but the urgency of speaking up and showing solidarity has remained the same. As […]

In all parts of our work, we commit to heal from an exceptionally long year of electoral campaigning, a devastating public health crisis, and ongoing violence of systemic racism spanning centuries prior to 2020. As we remain steadfast in […]
