Event Details

This event is hosted by CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning).

The Building Connections webinar series explores how social and emotional learning (SEL) connects to topics that are top of mind for our community so we can strengthen the many systems that support our young people.

CASEL is refining a specific form of SEL implementation that focuses explicitly on promoting social justice through increased school and civic engagement — called “Transformative SEL.” What does this look like in practice? Currently there are limited options for evidence-based programs and implementation models, but we have been learning alongside schools and districts about how specific practices, policies, and processes can be implemented to develop students’ active, informed, and critical participation in civic and political processes in their communities and beyond.

Join us as we share initial efforts to illustrate what transformative SEL looks like in practice. Research partners will share recent findings from youth surveys, teacher interviews, and observations, and summarize strategies for building upon existing schoolwide SEL implementation to focus on developing students’ collective agency to examine and interrupt inequities.

Recommended for educators and school and district leaders. Learn more about Transformative SEL: https://casel.org/research/transformative-sel/

Support is provided by the Susan Crown Exchange.
