Event Details

This event is organized by ElevatED Learning Services.

This is a two-day workshop on Tuesday, December 17 and Wednesday, December 18, 2019.

Day 1 (Tuesday, December 17): DEVELOPING LANGUAGE OBJECTIVES
Learn how to assess the language demands of any academic task, thereby anticipating and planning for the linguistic challenges that can impede student comprehension and engagement. We’ll explore the criteria for effective language objectives and provide you plenty of practice in developing them based on a variety of different unit culminating tasks.

Day 2 (Wednesday, December 18): EXPLICIT TEACHING OF ACADEMIC LANGUAGE
Explore methods for explicitly teaching the different types of academic language that reinforce content – discourse patterns, language functions, new content vocabulary – essential for your English Learner students. You’ll learn how to design activities that ensure your students get the needed multiple exposures and authentic interactions with new words and academic language structures so that they “stick”.
