Making Complexity Accessible For English Learners

This is the first in a series of 3 Autumn workshops ElevatED Learning Services is offering, all taking place in Downtown Brooklyn. This is a full-day workshop that provides any teacher who works with ELs the tools and strategies they need to put rigorous content instruction within their reach.  Participants will experience the power of learning new content in a new language, thus “walking in the shoes” of their ELs.

After experiencing learning new content in a new language, the workshop methodically breaks down the key strategies and structures used to make the content accessible.  We dive deeply into two core strategies for making complexity accessible to English Learners: applying and building background knowledge and designing effective graphic organizers.
