What is Our Story?
It’s more important now than ever for us to tell our story. Kudos to Brooklyn Prospect for leading the charge recently. “You have to create a community where people of color can bring their whole selves. There isn’t one 100 percent solution. It’s more like 10, 10 percent solutions.”
– Dan Rubenstein, CEO Prospect Schools.

“I’m excited to share a behind-the-scenes look at how this story came to life. Join us in January at DCSC’s Convening to discuss the benefits and challenges of generating press that authentically tells your school’s story, The 74 article and how you can acquire the tools and knowledge to ‘think like a communicator’ more often in your day-to-day work.”

How does City Garden benefit from DCSC membership?
We have attended each convening for the past few years (including presenting last year!), we are currently hosting a fellow (Genevieve!) and Sonia supported our recent (and successful!) Charter School Program (CSP) application which will help us expand in St. Louis. I value the community of DCSC and have learned a ton from other leaders across the coalition.
Why are you ready to participate in a more formal member dues program with DCSC?
Functionally, knowing what DCSC expects will allow City Garden to plan year in and year out instead of thinking about a donation/contribution each year. It’s a sign of a professionalizing organization which is a good thing.
Cohort 3 Recruitment
The UnifiED School Launch Program has already started recruiting for its third cohort. UnifiED is looking for fellows for the 2020-21 school year in Missouri, Indiana, Illinois, Georgia, Texas, New York, Tennessee, Michigan, and North Carolina. UnifiED also has a goal to recruit diverse leaders with at least 50% of the cohort identifying as people of color.
In addition to fellows, UnifiED is looking for DCSC members to serve as fellows’ host site and to partner with local education support organizations
To recommend a fellow or to learn more about becoming a host site, email Ashley at aheard@diversecharters.org.
