While the 2021 Annual Convening was virtual, DCSC continued to do what it always does – gather leaders of racially diverse schools around the practice and implementation of being diverse-by-design. Following up on its success, we continue to adapt and innovate on how we bring members together. We are excited to announce our hybrid 2022 Annual Convening! We will have in-person programming in Kansas City, MO as well as offering a virtual option.
Hanifi Oguz, Director of Beehive Science and Technology Academy, attended the 2021 Annual Convening for the first time as a new member of DCSC. At this past year’s convening, Hanifi saw first hand that DCSC members “are very reflective and willing to provide support to [other] members.” Having joined the Coalition, Beehive was welcomed into a community of anti-racist leaders that are “passionate, action-oriented, committed to the betterment of all students, and very collaborative and supportive.”[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1624482049330{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]One of the biggest things Beehive is excited about is going to Kansas City and interacting with other leaders in person. Excellent diverse-by-design schools are part of a historical narrative of nationwide school integration. Our members contribute to this social movement when they join the Coalition and attend our Annual Convening. As members and #DCSC2021 attendees, Beehive Academy educators have been able to “shift our focus on the data collection process and analyzing our data around our diversity to better understand the issues at our community and work as a team to explore solutions.”
