During the 25-26 school year, 68 participants from 34 DCSC member schools gathered in our Communities of Practice (CoP) to develop resources for the field of intentionally diverse charter school practitioners.
In this Community of Practice facilitated by PlayLab, participants collaborated in a supportive environment, culminating in a showcase of AI prototypes that address local needs—from family engagement and multilingual support to academic intervention and operational efficiency.
Goal 1: Increase AI Literacy and Confidence Among Educators and Leaders
Build a foundational understanding of generative AI, including its opportunities, limitations, and implications for equity. Participants will gain the knowledge and critical thinking skills needed to make informed, responsible decisions about using AI in their school communities.
Goal 2: Design Custom AI Tools to Solve Real Problems in Your Unique School Context
Participants will use human-centered design to create AI-powered tools that address the specific challenges and opportunities within their schools. Whether it’s automating family communications in multiple languages, generating differentiated lesson materials, streamlining enrollment workflows, or providing real-time data summaries for leadership, each tool will be built to meet the unique needs of your staff, students, and families. These prototypes will be practical, immediately usable, and shaped by the day-to-day realities of diverse charter school environments.
Goal 3: Establish a Scalable Foundation for Ongoing AI Innovation Across Your School or Network
Lay the groundwork for long-term AI capacity-building by identifying key infrastructure, talent, and use cases. Playlab will support schools in developing a roadmap for expanding AI integration across campuses in ways that are ethical, sustainable, and equity-centered.
Thank you to members who contributed their time, expertise, and ideas to this CoP in 2025-2026:
