About the Position:

 

The EUS Specialist, IT Services will maintain our existing technological environment’s effective and secure operations for our teachers, staff, and students. They will primarily support tier 1 and tier 2 needs as identified by The IT Service Manager, such as endpoint break-fix, application support, and other Ad Hoc needs. The EUS Specialist , IT Services reports to the Director of IT. This job description is meant to outline the responsibilities of the position, but other duties may be assigned as the needs of the school arise.

 

 

 

The Cybersecurity and Network Engineer plays a vital role in safeguarding and ensuring the seamless operation of CCPCS’s technology infrastructure. This position plays a direct role in protecting the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of sensitive student and staff data. The engineer tirelessly works to optimize network performance, troubleshoot complex technical issues, design systems with security at the forefront, and collaborate with the IT team to fortify our defenses against ever-evolving cyber threats. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of technical proficiency in cyber defense, network administration, system engineering principles, and a passion for protecting educational environments.

 

This is a 12-month position which is exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

This role is budgeted for two years and may be subject to change.

 

The responsibilities of the Infrastructure Engineer include:

 

Cybersecurity Maintenance

Proactively assess cyber risks by conducting vulnerability scans, penetration tests, and comprehensive risk assessments.
Develop, implement, and track detailed Plans of Action & Milestones (POAMs) to remediate identified vulnerabilities.
Thoroughly investigate and respond to spam, phishing attempts, malware infections, and other security incidents.
Design and deliver cybersecurity awareness training programs for staff and students.

 

Network Management

Maintain, optimize, and troubleshoot the performance of enterprise network infrastructure, including firewalls, switches, routers, wireless access points, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
Configure and administer secure VPN solutions, ensuring robust remote access for authorized users.
Proactively monitor network traffic and logs to identify and investigate anomalies or potential security breaches.
Ensure maximum network uptime, implement network redundancy measures, and address performance bottlenecks.

 

System Engineering

Design and implement IT platforms with a “security by design” approach, incorporating industry best practices and regulatory compliance.
Evaluate and recommend new technologies, prioritizing those that enhance the organization’s security posture.
Maintain comprehensive documentation of network and system configurations, change management processes, and security policies.
Perform capacity planning and scalability analysis to ensure the network and systems can support future growth.

 

Collaboration and Incident Response

Work cross-functionally with other IT team members to solve complex issues, share knowledge, and streamline workflows.
Actively participate in incident response activities, including investigation, containment, eradication, and post-incident analysis.
Stay up-to-date on emerging cybersecurity trends, vulnerabilities, and best practices through continuous learning and professional development.

 

Qualifications and Skills

 

Required

Minimum of 3 years of experience in enterprise system engineering or a closely related role.
At least one advanced certification in cybersecurity or networking (e.g., CISSP, CCNP, Security+, CEH). For example:
Security Plus
Network Plus / CCNA
CISSP
CISM
ANS C00
CCNP
F5 or Wireshark

 

Preferred

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
Experience in an educational setting.
Familiarity with K-12 compliance requirements (e.g., CIPA, FERPA).
Working knowledge of cloud-based technologies and security solutions.

 

 

In addition to the above requirements, staff members must meet the requirements of all hires at Capital City including a criminal background check.
