I’ve always thought of the fall school semester as a time when last-minute decisions on curriculum were made, students’ baseline data was analyzed, parent-teacher conferences were held, and students, parents, and teachers welcomed one another back to school.
These activities are still happening, but under vastly different circumstances and with a tremendous new pressure. Since September, I’ve seen DCSC members work hard to create, support and lead anti-racist schools designed to benefit all students, and in the midst of navigating the rising rates of COVID, still keep students and teachers engaged, and remain true to their missions of social and racial justice.
At this time, I’d like to acknowledge the enormous weight you’ve been shouldering and to give thanks for the work that you do which makes up our Coalition.
Thank you for your efforts and commitments to support your students, families, and staff.
Thank you for believing in and supporting the DCSC community.
And finally, my personal thank you to the entire DCSC staff who are my co-conspirators in providing guidance, context, and drive to our organization.
I hope we use this time to take a well deserved break – whether that be making some noise like Nandi Bushell, being soothed by sand or taking a nap.

New this year is our Explorer program. Explorers participate in virtual excellent school visits and receive other supports through the spring.

Brittany Packnett is a leader at the intersection of culture and justice. She is a lifelong activist and proud member of the Ferguson Uprising in which she was an appointed member of the Ferguson Commission and President Obamaʼs Task Force on 21st Century Policing. Today, she continues to advocate for urgent systemic change at critical decision making tables and through national and international media. President Barack Obama has cited Brittany as a leader whose “voice is going to be making a difference for years to come.”
